Alberto Lopez
Head of Label Licensing & Partnerships TikTok
Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Alberto Lopez has travelled the world to fulfill his dream to work in the
music business. Currently based in Miami, Florida, Alberto landed his first role in music as an MBA intern
at Universal Music Group in 2016, as part of the Corporate Development team, and has been part of the
industry in different roles in digital music business and strategy ever since. ‘Music has always played a
central role in my life, and devoting my time to help improve artists and musicians’ livelihoods in a more
diverse and even playing-field music ecosystem is a dream come true’ says Lopez.
As Senior Manager of Label Licensing & Partnerships at Bytedance/TikTok, Lopez is eager to be part of
the next music revolution that TikTok presents. In his role, Lopez is charged with negotiating complex
global licensing agreements with record labels for Bytedance’s products. He is tasked with driving
commercial relationships with TikTok’s label partners while also heading recorded music licensing and
partnerships for LATAM. Since joining TikTok in 2020, Alberto has been key in the negotiation and
execution of TikTok global renewal deals with major labels while also supporting important artist
initiatives such as J Balvin performance of his album “JOSE” (JOSE x TikTok) (#1 non-English single artist
music event on TikTok’ s history), and Rosalia’s debut live stream of her critically acclaimed album,
MOTOMAMI, that was first TikTok production to be nominated by the Recorded Academy and has won
TikTok’s first Cannes’ Lion.
Prior to joining TikTok, Lopez was the Associate Director of Global Digital Strategy and Partnerships for
Universal Music Group (UMG), based in Los Angeles, California. In his role, Lopez led cross-functional
teams of lawyers and tech experts in sourcing, negotiating and closing of global licenses with premier
digital players such as Amazon, Facebook, Peloton, Byte Dance, amongst others. He was also tasked with
leading and implementing company-wide business partnership communication and engagement toward
UMG owned and distributed labels. Lopez was also involved in supporting a UMG Board Member in key
interactions with CEO, Board, and UMG’s shareholder at the time, Vivendi.
Before his time at UMG, Alberto worked as junior associate at the international law firm Clifford
Chance, based in Madrid, where he specialized in cross-border mergers and acquisitions and private
equity transactions.
Alberto holds a Double Bachelor of Science in Law and Business Administration and Management
from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid [Ranked 12 out of 184 students, and recipient of
Autonomous Community of Madrid-Scholarship awarded based on excellence in academics to elite
students from the Autonomous Community (top 1%)] and an M.B.A from the University of California
in Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. He currently serves as Board Member of Music Biz
Association.
